Cairn India building green at MySmartCampus

Cairn India is reducing its carbon footprint at MySmartCampus. For its effort, Cairn was awarded the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Cairn India’s Corporate Office, referred to as MySmartCampus, is the first Indian corporate campus from within the oil and gas sector, to have been awarded a Platinum Certification under the category of Commercial Interiors by USGBC. MySmartCampus is a green building, which is LEED certified that saves 30% of energy on a day-to-day basis.

Cairn India employees have taken the Go Green pledge, where they contribute in various forms, doing their bit for the environment and also encourage other colleagues to avoid getting their cars and bikes to work, if possible.

On the certification 

LEED is a green building certification program that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. This includes design, construction, operations and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy and cost-effective buildings. To qualify for LEED certification, building projects have to satisfy prerequisites, comply with environmental laws and regulations, occupancy scenarios, site boundaries, building permanence and area-to-site ratio and earn points to achieve different levels of certification.

Some of the key contributors towards Cairn’s Platinum Certification are:

• The campus is designed to be energy- and resource-efficient
• All closed rooms, cabins and meeting spaces have been equipped with occupancy and daylight sensors, including LED lights for energy savings
• Solar panels have been installed on the terrace to meet the facility’s requirements for hot water
• High levels of indoor air and environmental quality

To eliminate use of mineral bottled water a central Reverse Osmosis (RO) water plant is installed to ensure safe and clean drinking water. Recyclable cups are used in the breakout areas to enjoy beverages. The state of the art Data Centre has also been built as per Green IT standards.

Today, USGBC’s LEED certification program has transformed how buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. LEED certified buildings help save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting the use of renewable, clean energy. It is through this commitment to the program’s design philosophy that Cairn India’s MySmartCampus has been able to accomplish the exceptionally high standards that merit a platinum certification.
