Bosch designs a customized energy efficient solar water heating system for Novotel Hotel

Bosch Limited, a leading supplier of technology and services, has designed a customized energy efficient solar water heating system for Novotel Hotel in Bangalore. Sponsored by Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (DENA), the German Energy Agency, DENA is the center for expertise for energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and intelligent energy systems. Bosch’s Thermotechnology division installed 100 solar thermal collectors on the rooftop of the hotel’s building.

“The output of the solar system is supplied as a boiler feed which finds many applications, such as in the kitchen and for laundry and bathing purposes as well. The systems are designed to operate throughout the year and we estimate that through this installation Novotel can save upto 17,000 liters of diesel which roughly translates to around INR 10,22,000 in savings,” stated Mr. Venugopalan C M, head of Bosch India’s Energy Business. The hotel’s present boiler is diesel fired and owing to diesel de-regulation the cost of operations has increased tremendously over the past few years.

The collectors are mounted at a specially calculated tilt angle of 30 degrees, instead of the usual 23 degrees which is followed in southern India. This design will enable the system to capture maximum solar radiation. Beginning November 18, 2014 the on-site installation of the system has started, the project is scheduled to be completed by mid of December. After being tested and monitored, the system would be ready for commissioning.
