Aligarh Muslim University, one of the oldest and most renowned educational institutes in the country, has adopted solar power in association with CleanMax Solar, India's largest rooftop solar developer. Built in collaboration with SECI and MNRE, a rooftop plant of 1.5 MW has been installed across 17 roofs at the campus, and will provide 10% of the university's electricity. The solar plant will reduce emissions from grid power and backup diesel generators, and will abate 2069 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Sharing his thoughts with regards to the recent association, Mr. Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director, CleanMax Solar said, "Since 2011, CleanMax Solar has commissioned more than 200 projects in the country across sectors such as automotive, IT, educational institutes, manufacturing, government buildings, among others. Our institutional clients include Manipal Education and Medical Group, National Institute of Technolog
Y, Surathkal (NITK), Pune University, and other leading educational institutions across India. We are honoured to be associated with a distinguished educational institute like Aligarh Muslim University, which occupies a unique and important position in the educational sector in India. We are happy to note that the solar power supplied to Aligarh Muslim University will be at a cost which is 20% cheaper than the grid tariff, providing significant cost savings to the university as well."
Mr. Jain also added, "The Union Budget 2017 has also outlined measures to support the development of solar power capacity, in pursuit of its agenda to 'transform, energise and clean India'. Educational institutes going solar and reducing their reliance on conventional power, is a major step towards Government's vision."
Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University said, "Adopting rooftop solar energy is both a socially conscious and a financially prudent move for AMU. We are extremely happy to be associated with CleanMax Solar to implement sustainable and green technology in our campus. The plant installed in association with CleanMax Solar will be operated and maintained for a period of 25 years. Dr. Mohd Rihan, Convener of the University's Green Campus project said that this initiative will assist us in saving approximately INR 36 lacs each year, without any requirement for investment from the university."
