EDITORIAL Dear Energetica India Readers, Energetica India welcomes you to the May- June 2016 issue. The growth of renewable energy in India has been remarkable with the industry attracting Indian and global companies, both. The recent M&A announcements in the industry have further highlighted the sector in the global arena. Tata Power is acquiring Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt. Ltd, a company that comes with 1140 MW of solar and wind assets in India. The deal value is around INR. 9,249 crores. This transaction is one of the biggest M&A deals in India’s renewable energy sector. In another M&A announcement, SunEdison Inc. has sold a 7 MW portfolio of rooftop solar projects in India to Amplus Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The portfolio consists of commercial and industrial rooftop projects are located throughout the country, providing power to corporate customers. At the same time, the market is speaking about ACME Solar selling about 275 megawatts of its operational solar assets to an infrastructure fund of asset manager IDFC Alternatives. With these market trends, Energetica India comes up with an interesting read for industry stakeholders in the May-June 2016 issue. The Government of Haryana has formulated Haryana Solar Power Policy 2016 to promote the generation of power from solar energy. The new policy is to supersede the Haryana Solar Power Policy, 2014. Energetica India studies the new policy in the article “Haryana’s State Solar Policy 2016”. As of 2015, the installed capacity of Solar Thermal Energy (STE) increased to almost 5 GW with the connection of a number of large-scale solar thermal power plants to the grid, in Spain and the US in particular. Around 61% of the operational STE plants are located in Spain, whereas 18% are located in the US. But over the past three years, market interest has shifted away from the traditional markets of Spain and the US to emerging markets like South Africa, Morocco and Chile, due to their high solar resources and political commitment to solar energy. The issue with its article “Solar Thermal Energy’s Outlook & Regions” brings forward the growth of STE across the globe. Formulation of the Integrated Rating methodology has been one of the important steps taken by Ministry of Power in India towards highlighting the focus areas for improvements in the Distribution sector. The article “Third Annual Integrated Ratings of State Power Distribution Utilities” covers the latest ratings of Indian state power distribution companies. Energetica India, due to its immense distribution, receives articles from industry stakeholders as well. Mr.Ashish Verma, Senior Consultant, Gensol Engineering has looks at the cumulative performance analysis and benchmarking of 7*2MW each operational solar projects erected and commissioned by leading EPC contractor Premier Solar in the state of Jharkhand, India. IHS Energy has come out with a report showing new records being set for wind installations globally in 2015. We speak to Mr. Magnus Dale, Senior Research Analyst at IHS Energy to learn the reasons for this growth, expected growth drivers going forward and India’s role in global wind energy.
