EDITORIAL Dear Energetica India Readers, Welcome to our Energetica India September/ October 2015 issue. The Indian solar industry creates another record with solar tariffs dropping to an alltime low of Rs.4.63 a kWhr. This is was price quoted by SunEdison, in an e-auction to win 500MW of solar project from NTPC. The previous was Rs.5.05 by SkyPower Southeast Holdings, to win a 150 MW solar project in Madhya Pradesh. Will this create a new trend in Indian and global solar industry? Time will tell us but it does show that solar in India is on its way to grid parity. The Indian solar boom is attracting several Indian and foreign players. This is certainly needed if the country has to meet the target of 100 GW of capacity by 2022 average capacity addition of almost 15 GW each year. Speaking of foreign players, Japan’s Soft- Bank, which had announced its entry into the Indian solar power market, has made its first bid – for a 500-Mw solar park project in Andhra Pradesh. SoftBank has tied up with Foxconn and Bharti Enterprises to invest in the Indian solar energy sector. Also France has committed to provide over 2 billion euros for Smart city projects in India with a focus on Chandigarh, Nagpur and Puducherry. At the same time, India and Indonesia have signed two agreements on new and renewable sources of energy and cultural exchange.
