courage energy efficiency through the use of LED technology. LED lights can reduce energy consumption by as much as 88 per cent as compared to an ordinary bulb, and 50 per cent as compared to a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp). This DELP Programme of LED bulbs is a national programme implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a Central Govt. undertaking. Under this programme, each participating consumer will be offered four LED bulbs of 7W each, along with a replacement warranty by EESL for three years in case of any technical fault. The programme will help consumers to significantly save on the initial cost of LED bulbs by offering the same at a highly discounted price of only Rs. 100/- per LED bulb. The consumer can also opt for an EMI scheme by making an initial payment of Rs. 10/- per LED bulb, and the remaining at Rs 10/month in the EMI option via the electricity bill. ENERGY EFFICIENCY Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & Executive Director, Tata Power, said, “I am happy to announce participation of Tata Power in the scheme, and I am positive it will promote the cause of energy conservation through the spread of LED bulbs amongst our consumers. It is a proud moment to participate in national programme of LED Bulbs for the benefit of the consumers more than 120 industrial and commercial consumers. Tata Power has enrolled a Thermal Storage capacity of over 15,000 TRH which has achieved load shift of more than 6 Million units of energy from peak to off peak hours. We introduced the Demand Response Program during which we succeeded in curtailing load of around 15 MW. ENERGETICA INDIA: What other initiatives is Tata Power working on for demand side management? ASHOK SETHI: Tata Power has the following offerings for consumers in the city of Mumbai • Energy efficient 5 star ceiling fans for residential consumers: This is a very interesting program which helps the consumers save 30% of energy consumed by the fans. Tata Power has offered an incentive on load shift and enrolled15,000 TRH capacity. More than 6 million units of energy is shifted to off peak hours. With the use of ‘Thermal Energy Storage Technology’ the central AC plants run in the night and converts water in the form of ice. During day-time, the AC plants are switched off and building is cooled by the energy stored in the form ice. Thus, air-conditioning is provided during the day-time without actually running the large AC plants. • Refrigerator exchange program: Refrigerators run 24 hours a day and consume large amounts of power. Consumers will be able to save 30 to 50 % energy by replacing the old refrigerators at subsidized cost under this program.
