“With a 70 MW installed production capacity and plans to expand upto 500 MW in coming future, we aim to become one of the largest manufacturers in India as well as spread our reach in the global market” INTERVIEW ENERGETICA INDIA: Please introduce us to Navitas Solar ANKIT SINGHANIA: To believe in sustainable development and to shift to sustainable energy resources has become imperative in the wake of ever-increasing global energy needs. To address this requirement, Navitas Solar has embarked on a strategic plan to build its business in solar energy. It’s the latest venture into renewable market by a group of companies having a glorious history of over 40 years in engineering and manufacturing activities. ENERGETICA INDIA: What kind of solar panels are being manufactured by Navitas Solar? What is the manufacturing capacity of Navitas Solar? ANKIT SINGHANIA: Navitas Solar is the manufacturer of the state-of-the-art mono/multi crystalline solar photovoltaic (PV) modules which supply sustainable solar electric power to both on-grid and off-grid residential, commercial as well as industrial establishments. Apart from providing the panels, we also provide a complete lifecycle of solar power solutions and our expertise now includes Designing, installing and commissioning solar power plants. With a 70 MW installed production capacity and plans to expand upto 500MW in coming future, we aim to become one of the largest manufacturers in India as well as spread our reach in the global market. ENERGETICA INDIA: What criteria/parameters should be taken into account by a solar developer while selecting solar panels? Energetica India speaks to Mr. Ankit Singhania, Director, Navitas Solar to learn more about Navitas Solar and Mr.Singhania’s opinion on India’s solar industry. ANKIT SINGHANIA: When we talk about solar panels, the most important thing is quality. Solar panels are made to perform for more than 25 years. Three things play the most important part for quality panels – Raw material, machines and process. We at Navitas Solar believe in long term relationships and not short term gains. Just to give you an example, we have signed an agreement with DuPont to use only tedlar based backsheet for our Navisol series modules. All the raw materials used are from world-renowned tier-1 companies so that our clients can have peace of mind. Our manufacturing line is fully automatic with the latest technology from Xcell Automation (USA), ABB robotics (Germany) and Pasan (Switzerland) to name a few. All our solar modules go through more than 30 checks so that the final product is defect-free. ENERGETICA INDIA: Will some of the criteria/ parameters differ while choosing panels for a rooftop project? ANKIT SINGHANIA: No. Whether it is rooftop or for solar developer, solar panels are made to last for more than 25 years and perform. We at Navitas Solar provide the same quality of panels for both types. ENERGETICA INDIA: Which raw materials within the solar panel can make or break the bottom line for an investor/solar developer? ANKIT SINGHANIA: All the materials are critical when making a solar panel. Even the smallest component like silicon sealant plays a vital role and hence we use only Dow Corning. But if you ask me to name one raw material, I will say it’s the backsheet as it is exposed to the climate and has to protect the panels form the environment. Only DuPont tedlar based backsheets are proven to last more than 25 years in the field. All our modules in Navisol series use only DuPont tedlar based backsheets. ENERGETICA INDIA: How can one check/confirm the use of good raw materials within a solar panel? ANKIT SINGHANIA: Once the panel is made, it is very difficult to know the raw materials used inside. We, at Navitas Solar believe in transparency while doing business. Hence, we promote our customers to visit us and inspect us. ENERGETICA INDIA: How are Indian solar panels perceived globally w.r.t. quality? ANKIT SINGHANIA: Global Solar PV market has been dominated by China for many years. China has helped to make it affordable and a widely used source of electricity. Unfortunately, this has led in cost cutting through the use of unreliable raw materials as well as manufacturing and quality control. Solar PV is an industry known for its longevity and reliability. It offers a promise for long-term gains as a result of the warranties bestowed by the manufacturer. Navitas Solar and generally all the reputed Solar Modules manufacturers in India have gained trust globally by providing High quality solar modules made using good raw materials and process Mr. Ankit Singhania Director, Navitas Solar 26 energetica INDIA · SEP | OCT15
